George Panagi creates drawings which are more related to documentation of a performance rather than an ink on paper drawing. These abstract works focus is as much on the act of drawing as the finished product. The artist begins by selecting a paper size and a colored pen. The paper then may be embelished with collaged images, text, or both. The pen is then placed on the paper and the drawing of a single line begins. During this process the artist is in a state of extreme focus and concentration, in which his eyes and hand are under increasing strain. The pen is never lifted from the paper until the work is complete. Completion is determined by the lack of the eyes and hand to continue to maintain the drawing of a single uninterupted line. At times additional lines may be added to a single work. It is important to note that the line drawn is related to the automatic drawing techniques of the Surrealists, in that no rational thought has been given in the creation of the line.
