The world is in a flux where there is no stable ground. Where we once stood predicting a bright future, the ground under us is moving, the horizon is fuzzy and there is no crisp certainness. The edges are there we think, but we cannot seem to find them. Modern man, modern world is not so sure now and even his gyroscope has fallen down.
This is the aesthetic world of my paintings. Layer and layers of transparent and translucent paint creating veiled worlds to sink into, shapes that have an uncertain relationship to the picture edge, built up edges of solid color that create impasto lines demanding importance introducing fields of layered color that float in uncertainty.
Everything seems to say where are we? We may not be lost, but we are not quite as sure about today as we were about yesterday.

“Marshall thinks of his multi-hued surfaces in an archaeological sense, for color trails show the various layers of oil glazes and the subtle wake of his touch. Layer upon layer of pigment melts together to create illuminated colors, and the overlapping of the edges only adds to the interest.”
