Sterling Bartlett (b. 1981) is a largely self taught artist and commercial illustrator based in Los Angeles, Ca. Influenced by fringe cultural movements and their inherent folklores, Sterling has crafted a meticulous visual language in graphite. Born of equal parts Americana, heavy metal iconography, and 80′s skate graphics his illustrations bind these disparate elements together into layered visual puns and lovingly rendered portraits. Bartlett has worked with an array of clientele creating illustrations for apparel and hard goods, providing art direction, and lending his name to commercial product collaborations. His understanding of culture along with his technical skill have been invaluable in ushering ideas from concept to completion. Sterling’s work has been featured in Bullett Magazine, Juxtapoz, and Beautiful/Decay. His products have featured prominently in such publications as Transworld Skateboarding, Color, Antenna, and Entertainment Weekly. Bartlett has made a name for himself through illustration, but also creates work for both gallery exhibition and personal commissions.
