Yipping coyotes woke me up at 3 this morning, and set my dogs to howling.  Venus was just above the horizon, and seemed so close I felt I could reach out and touch it. [more]

NO NO!  There IS a Poet Laureate in Detroit!  Her name is Naomi Long Madgett and she is STILL ALIVE!!  AND She just won a 2012 Kresge Eminent Artist award.  Born in 1923, Madgett was named Detroit Poet Laureate in 2001 by then-Mayor Dennis Archer. I'm going to look around for some poems by her now...   Guess I'll have to be content  with  some other title I invent for myself [more]
