"California, Pre-Determined" - The paintings I made for this series are process oriented and are a reflection on California's commuter culture. The fifty paintings in this series are "Pre-Determined" because the images are decided for me by influential photographs specifically made by non-artists while driving their car. The objectivity of hard-edged painting and the language of space relationships are addressed through multiple layers of glazed paint and color association. Using this formal dialogue while looking to the future structurally combines both the rigid and the organic nature of the culture Californians live in.
