SOCIO-CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

 2010    Constructs kiln for ceramics and terracotta in the Yeri Karai Kala Mayyam or lake side art collective in Thiruvannamalai and starts weekend workshops for painting and terracotta for local children

 2009-2010    Gives voluntary art classes once a week in local school, TLC, Thiruvannamalai Learning Centre       

 2009     Starts living on the land by the Samuthiram yeri karai in the countryside
in Thiruvannamalai in an art and ecology project growing fruit trees and vegetables and doing various art projects

2008    Panelist in Art and Ecology Discussion at the Mohile Parikh Centre for   Visual Arts (MPCVA), Mumbai

 2005  Creates with children and adults a 30 metre long body banner “Tree” for “Kastanjeboom houdt Zomersoiree” Chestnut Tree Summer Festival in Nijmegen, Holland

2005   Directs the creation by children of a fifteen metre banner with the title “Save the  River Periyar” which was part of the campaign to save the River Periyar  organized by Janaaranya People’s Forest in Kochi,

2003-05   Co-director of the Lila Studio Gallery and the Mayalokam Art Collective in Bazaar Road, Mattancherry, Kochi

2000  Spends two years weekend workshops for local children on art and crafts, theatre, solar cooking, recycled paper etc in the Lila Centre in Thiruvannamalai

1999-2005    Co-founder and art director for the five Annual Tree Festivals in Fort Cochin participating in various exhibitions and art projects in this period

1998   Gives the painting “The dream of Chaliyar Rahman” to the Movement to Save Chaliyar River in Kerala.

1997  Directs a workshop on sculpture for children invited by Press Club, Kottayam, Kerala

1997  Directs sculpture workshops in terracotta and traditional kiln construction in three schools in Vellore, Tamil Nadu

EDUCATION

Studies first and second course in Social Work in the University of Alicante.

1986-88   Studies first and second course in the Art School of Alicante (Escuela de Artes y Oficios de Alicante).

1989-91     Studies first and second course in the Escuela de Ceramica de Manises, Spain.

1992        Starts her professional career as a painter and sculptor with the artistic name of Gayatri Gamuz.

 2010        Selected by the Spanish master Antonio Lopez Garcia to participate in his prestigious annual course, maestros de la figuracion, in the University of Navarra, Pamplona, Spain.
