I draw my portraits and figures in graphite, with occasional touches
of colored pencil. I seek to achieve an effect similar to that of
silverpoint, with its subtlety and gentleness of line. Graphite is my
preferred medium, though, as it allows for fine realistic detail, a
range of values, mass, and a direct connection to the model.
I rely on my knowledge of anatomy, proportion, line, form, and
modeling to render my drawings accurately. My ultimate goal is to
capture each figure's unique character and distinctive affect
so that he or she comes alive on paper.
