Art Hamptons

The Hamptons art fair season kicked off this past week with Art Hamptons. Scheduled two weeks ahead of Scope, Art Hamptons took placed at the Bridgehampton Historical Society and featured an international array of galleries such as Babcock, Frost & Reed (booth pictured above), Hirschl and Adler, Hollis Taggart, June Kelly, Peter Fetterman, Robert Henry Adams Fine Arts, and Spanierman Modern

Perhaps the weather was a little too ideal for its own good, since it seemed the more serious collectors may have stayed on the beaches working on their tans.  Attendance was good, though many gallerists complained of a less than sophisticated buying audience.  As with most fairs, the organizers always seem to do themselves some major disservice, in this case segregating the fair into four buildings. The large white tents and their circuitous pathways made it difficult to know where the art begun and ended.

One of the best components of the fair was the charitable nature of the evening events, with no less than six fundraisers benefitting local organizations. Give and ye shall receive.
