Alejandro Diaz’s show at the Happy Lion in Chinatown was disappointing. There were many people at the opening who seemed to enjoy it, but I felt that this is something that has been done before, and if you are going to do something unoriginal, atleast do it better than before. Here, Diaz fails. The World’s Largest Cardboard Sign, really? The only original pieces were two bird cages in the corner, each with their own cardboard sign about losing their leases. Cardboard signs are most definitely something I have seen before, as well as references to the Mexican-American border struggles of the past presidential terms. What was shown here has been done so many times, I am tired of it, move on.
The Happy Lion is located at 963 Chung King Road in Chinatown. Diaz’s show runs through November 28th.
