Galerie Asbæk was founded in 1975 in Copenhagen by Jacob and Patricia Asbæk.
Since the opening in 1975 the gallery has represented several generations of Danish and international artists.

From the beginning well-known artists such as Wilhelm Freddie, Carl-Henning Pedersen and Robert Jacobsen established the reputation of the gallery.
Today the gallery also has a strong representation of artists from the 80's and 90's working with painting, sculpture, video, installation, as well as photography.
In 2001 Jacob and Patricia Asbæk opened a large exhibition space in Mallorca - Centro Cultural Andratx. Many of Galerie Asbæks' artists have lived and exhibited here along with international artists such as Markus Oehlen, Les Rogers, Martin Parr, Cosima von Bonin etc.
