History
Galerie Bob van Orsouw began its life in 1988 in a private apartment with the aim of fostering the idea of art in everyday life. In April 1990 the gallery moved into an old factory building and thus became a public space. Together with Kunsthalle Zurich, Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst and other galleries, Galerie Bob van Orsouw then moved to the premises of a former brewery in May 1996. Since then, the Löwenbräu-Areal has become an established centre for contemporary art in Zurich. From January 2007 to July 2009, Galerie Bob van Orsouw ran a second but time-limited project space in Zurich: "Suzie Q Projects". This project space was a forum for the promotion of young, international, contemporary art. As the historic Löwenbräu brewery is now undergoing a two-year renovation, Galerie Bob van Orsouw, along with further institutions and galleries in the building, moved in September 2010 to the new temporary exhibition space Hubertus Exhibitions, an industrial building on Zurich’s Albisriederstrasse.

Activities
Galerie Bob van Orsouw is devoted to the presentation and promotion of international, contemporary art, in the media of painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, installation and film. The program includes established as well as upcoming artists. Special attention is paid to the contemporary Swiss art scene. In addition to the presentation of solo and group exhibitions, the gallery’s activities include collaboration with international guest-curators and institutions, a participation in international art fairs, as well as the edition of catalogues and artist’s books.
