Founded in 2002 by Jörg heikhaus, heliumcowboy opened in a small space in Hamburg St. Pauli, supporting emerging artists with the ability to blow away boundaries and establish the future aesthetics of art.
Positioned closely to the development and evolutional cycles of young art today, heliumcowboy has been aiding artists who are the mould of the art world. The aim was to establish a place to conceive, show and experience art that is made by and for people living in the here and now, and that can be considered authentic in their reflection of our society and selves.
Since the beginning, our motto (and ethos) derives from an old 60ies song: "A cowboy's work is never done". This in mind, we quickly expanded the gallery’s reach by showcasing artists from around the globe, organizing exhibitions abroad and in unusual places, and taking part in acclaimed art fairs in New York, Miami or Basel. In 2008 we‘ve set up the largest ever gallery exhibition in Hamburg in the debris of the famous Bieberhaus, with over 30 artists on 1.500 square meters.
11 years, over 100 shows, 20 fairs and several locations later, heliumcowboy disposed of the traditional gallery concept with a regular exhibition schedule, and focuses on supporting a very small and exclusive selection of artists only, developing and executing art projects, organizing off-site and on-site shows and bridging the gap between the market and innovative contemporary art.
Currently, we concentrate on the artist management of ADAMEVA and Jo Fischer and the regional representation of international art stars such as Victor Castillo or Boris Hoppek.
We're also supporting the artist and exhibition related activities of MILLERNTOR GALLERY #03 (a social gallery founded by charity organisation Viva con Agua) for the upcoming exhibition at the stadium of the FC St. Pauli May 23-25.
And then there is one other thing, one more reason why we may have gotten a bit more quiet lately than you‘re used to ...
Our main herdsman on the Ranch, Jörg, has withdrawn from the daily gallery routines more and more these past few years to attend to his own art project with full force: Alex Diamond. This is a project that runs outside of all heliumcowboy activities since 2004, which means that even if the work of Alex Diamond is currently available through heliumcowboy and we share the same address, it is not represented or managed by us.
