Institute 193 is a non-profit contemporary art space dedicated to enriching the cultural landscape of central Kentucky by exhibiting the work of emerging and mid-career professional artists from the southeastern United States.
It serves as a point-of-departure for these artists, who are selected based on the quality and relevance of their work, and not by commercial viability. Institute 193 focuses its efforts on providing them with professionally installed exhibitions, color catalogues of their work, and scholarly essays pertaining to their shows. Its goal is to advance the careers of regional artists by building connections to the most relevant contemporary art markets across the globe.
institute 193 also publishes books and hosts musical performances, film screenings, and other community-driven events in its gallery space.
The Institute is committed to promoting the Bluegrass as a center of creative production and making contemporary art accesible to the public at no charge. In time, it will participate in art fairs across the country in a direct effort to expose Southern artists to the world at large.
