The Salem Art Association (SAA), located in Salem Oregon, is a nonprofit cultural organization dedicated to art education, art appreciation, and historic preservation in Salem and surrounding communities and is one of the largest community arts organizations in Oregon.
SAA’s Community Arts Education program (CAE) engages over 11,000 students each year in arts activities such as artist-in-residence programs, Family Arts Nights at schools, and an annual Schools Show that displays artwork by local students in SAA’s galleries. CAE also provides regional artists with professional development opportunities.
SAA displays professional artwork in three galleries housed in the Bush Barn Art Center, located in the historic Bush’s Pasture Park. The A.N. Bush Gallery shows regional, national, and international artists; the Focus Gallery showcases work by Oregon artists; and the sales-focused Camas Gallery sells work by over 150 regional artists.
SAA also operates the historic Bush House Museum, located adjacent to the Bush Barn. Built in 1878, the Museum was once the home of Asahel Bush II and his family. Today the Museum offers tours to the public, conserves and displays historical materials relating to the Bush family, and in September 2011 will host the first annual Heritage Art & Craft Festival.
SAA conducts several annual fundraising events to support these three core programs, including the Salem Art Fair & Festival, featuring the work of over 200 artists; the Clay Ball, a formal dinner and art auction; and the Holiday Showcase & Gala, an opportunity to purchase hand-crafted holiday gifts and preview SAA’s upcoming art exhibitions.
Located in the picturesque setting of Bush’s Pasture Park in Salem Oregon, the Bush Barn Art Center is a vibrant cultural hub offering stimulating admission-free exhibitions as well as a sales gallery and gift shop offering works of art by talented Pacific Northwest artists and craftspeople.
The A.N. Bush Gallery presents major interpretive exhibitions of regional, national, and international artists. It is the Art Center’s largest exhibit space.
The Focus Gallery is a more intimate setting showcasing the finest contemporary work by Northwest artists as well as exhibits highlighting community partnerships with other cultural and heritage organizations.
The Camas Gallery & Gift Shop feature handcrafted jewelry, glassware, fiber art, ceramics, metalwork, and sculpture as well as paintings, drawings, and original prints by dozens of regional artists. Purchases in the Camas Gallery support regional artists and SAA’s educational programs. SAA members receive a 10% discount on purchases in the Camas Gallery and are eligible to participate in our rent-to-buy program.
