Movements in Stillness: The Still Life paintings of Edgar Soberón
The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, in Montgomery Alabama will feature an exhibition of the still life paintings of Edgar Soberón begining this Fall. Soberón was born in Cienfuegos, Cuba in 1962, he and his family left the island in the early 70´s for Spain where they lived for three years before establishing permanent residence in New York City.
Soberón attended Parsons School of Design, where he later taught with the Foundation and Printmaking Departments for ten years. In 1996 he was awarded the Distiguished Teaching Excellence Award by Parsons and the New School University for his outstanding contributions to art education.
Since the early 1990´s the central focus of his work has been Still Life capturing the light, color and subject matter that is reminiscent of his native country. His colorful still lifes bring together traditional and modern sensibilities.
Soberón lives and works in central Mexico, in the town of San Miguel de Allende.
