“AFA Beijing Contemporary Art Centre” is the first project launched by Macau Art for All Society (AFA) in Beijing for art exhibition and art exchange. AFA is an artist organization registered in Macau in 2007 by several Macau contemporary artists. The objectives of AFA are to enhance the development of Macao contemporary art, to increase the exchange with overseas and to facilitate local art creations.
AFA has cooperated with a local enterprise and has, at the same time, received support from the local government to open an art gallery– St. Paul’s Fine Art – in a century-old building nearby the Ruins of St. Paul. St. Paul’s Fine Art is the first commercial gallery in Macau which concentrates on local contemporary art. Six artist studios are also opened in the same building for art creations. A number of art exhibitions have been organized since the opening and have certainly created a significant influence on the development of Macau contemporary art.
