Un-vironment I marks a transition from a pure interpretation of private, domestic space into an investigation of the private within public space. The site for the installation, dubbed a ‘functional hallway’ is a wide-open space in which I will create a hall of doors--a long corridor as in a hotel, an apartment or office building--that the viewer will be able to walk through or alongside. The free-standing doors will reverse the notion of inside/outside, public/private, transforming the larger public space into a series of narrow, private places.
