> DESCRIPTION

As an artist who deals with long term social documentation as well as photojournalism that focuses on the contemporary, Michal weaves her way between two sets of representations: the first draws upon an aesthetic tradition allowing a relatively high level of undefined photographic message, the second prioritizes collective meaning over individual expression in photography.

Whether in clubs or at army checkpoints, the content that passes through the quick snapshot frames reality as Michal sees and feels it. The majority of her observations are, in fact, on the edge – "behind the scenes". Her interest lies in the intricate web of the balances of power: contrasts and conflicts of femininity, the fine line between seduction and being "victimized", between force and surrender.

When moving between the photographs, the accumulated gaze is not only the one which looks through the camera, but also the gaze which tries to examine and justify the photographer's viewpoint towards the photographed women and herself, as a part of the balance of power that allows the creation of a picture.(Yossi Nahmias)
