Bold lines, wheeling graphics and vivid color poised to literally jump off the walls and grab your eyeballs awaits at the new show "3 Guys" at Artworks in Trenton.
Featuring the work of Trenton-based artists Anthony Fearron, Karey Maurice and Thom Reaves, 3 Guys will showcase the many formal and applied artistic realms
these artists work and play in - from freeform abstraction, to upbeat expressionism and neo-pop.
"I challenge my audience to look beyond physical representations and deal with the universal human spirit," says Maurice. "The subject matter ranges from people to
everyday symbolic images which I find relative to popular culture. My work is a joyful pop parody of art from the 1950's and 1960's that I have admired," he says.
"Color, line and design are the means by which I develop my works," says Reaves. "My art for the most part, celebrates the joy of life," he says.
Of his abstract canvases Fearron says: "These works are an expression of my humanity, using colors and forms and freedom of expression to represent my experiences on this path as well as my journey to the next level."
In addition to his painting, Fearron is a freeform experimental DJ whose MADDTRONIX Mood Show aired on Rutger's WRSU-FM from 1994 through 2008.
MADD TRONIX will provide music at the 3 Guys opening reception on March 21.
Karey Maurice Counts studied painting at Mercer County Community College in Trenton under famed area painter Mel Leipzig. He also received an art education on
the streets and in the galleries of New York City during the "Eighties Art Boom". There he associated with such hip-hop, graffiti and neo-pop luminaries as Fab Five
Freddie, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring, who influenced and encouraged his art.
Reaves is an accomplished artist and designer, whose work encompasses poster art, comics, and t-shirt designs. He graduated from Pratt Institute in 1988 with a
B.F.A. in Communications Design.
A reception for 3 Guys will be held at Artworks on Saturday, March 21 from 5 to 9 p.m., featuring music by MADD TRONIX. The show will open March 21 and run
through April 25, 2009. Gallery hours are Saturday 12 to 4 p.m., or by appointment.
