MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART DENVER PRESENTS A GROUP EXHIBITION PATTERN: FOLLOW THE RULES
PATTERN: FOLLOW THE RULES
OCTOBER 18, 2013–FEBRUARY 9, 2014
Public Celebration Saturday, November 2, 2013 | 10AM–5PM
Members Private Viewing Friday, November 22 | 6–8PM
Working with technology, including digitization and computer programming, the artists in this exhibition experiment with new ways to generate artistic forms using science, math and technology. Importantly, these artists subvert traditional aesthetic judgments, instead setting up systems of mechanical rules to create a final work—a new way to conceive the relationship between form and content. The art that takes up these new definitions of pattern alters our interaction with the space around us and challenges our perception of what we see.
Artists in the exhibition include Walead Beshty (b. United Kingdom 1976), Teresita Fernandez (b. United States 1968), Mark Grotjahn (b. United States 1968), Shirazeh Houshiary (b. Iran 1955), Kilvinas Kempinas (b. Lithuania 1969), Jason Middlebrook (b. United States 1966), Mai-Thu Perret (b. Switzerland 1976), Ara Peterson (b. United States 1973), Hugh Scott-Douglas (b. United Kingdom 1988), Alyson Shotz (b. United States 1964), Rudolf Stingel (b. Italy 1956), Tam Van Tran (b. Vietnam 1966), Garth Weisner (b. United States 1979), Pae White (b.
