“I’m Not Lost, Just Undiscovered” is a peer-curated exhibition of contemporary artworks by New Orleans area teenagers. After issuing a call for art from high school students, the Contemporary Arts Center’s Teen Board, a group of twelve individuals from various high schools in the city, began developing an exhibition that speaks their language. Responsible for each element of curating the exhibition, the Teen Board selected and organized the works on view; made exhibition and display decisions; and developed the title of the exhibition and the language that surrounds it.
“I’m Not Lost, Just Undiscovered” is taken from James Morrison’s “Undiscovered,” whose lyrics are a testament to the collective experiences of one’s teenage years—“I’m not lost, not lost, just undiscovered. And when we’re alone, we’re all the same as each other.” The works exhibited here range in media—from drawing and painting to sculpture, photography, and collage—and in theme—from the environment and exploration different cultures, to the self, experimentation, and one’s surroundings—but share an exuberance for experimentation and discovery.
