In May, Waterstone Gallery presents New Work by Nancy Wilkins --recent monoprints, polymer intaglio and mixed media collage that combine printmaking techniques into unique compositions.
Nancy writes: “Each piece begins as a rough idea, a thumbnail sketch that is frequently abandoned as the process itself reshapes my initial concept. The press and paper-cutter are tools and partners, contributing with often unexpected results that lead in new directions. I approach this work as a mental and physical exercise where creating composition feels very much like a wrestling match—a back and forth interaction in which I attempt to align often competing elements. I swing between extremes: I am attracted to geometry, order, clean line and black and white—yet also organic shape, color and loose, flowing energy. The attempt here is creating structure balanced with expression.”
