"the group photography show, which opens on march 7, 2013 at CORE, focuses on contemporary culture. artists were asked to think about the “here and now” — what and who inspires their work; where and when they grab a camera, a phone or anything with a lens to capture what is happening in the world around them; and how technology and/or social media has changed the way they use photography as an artistic expression.
the “landscape” changes so quickly in our modern lives that a month, a week, or even a day can hold revelations. thinking in time capsule terms helps us communicate something about today, examine where we are in relation to the past, and imagine where we may be heading in the future. it helps us question what things are important and why the future may be different because of what is happening now. CORE will be presenting a perspective on our immediate surroundings and modern culture, through photos or photo-based art; and how technology has influenced and revolutionized the way we experience life in an ever-changing, image conscious, gadget-laced social media environment."
