On January 31, 2013, from 4:30 – 7:00 PM, the Therese A. Maloney Art Gallery in Annunciation Center at the College of Saint Elizabeth (2 Convent Road, Morristown, NJ 07960) will host the artists’ opening reception for Persona, an art exhibition that examines the externalization of the psychological “self” in painting, drawing, sculpture, mixed media, photography, and video art. The reception will take place at the Gallery in the Annunciation Center and is free and open to the public.
Immediately following the reception, from 7:15 – 8:30 PM, there will be an artists’ panel discussion moderated by Virginia Fabbri Butera, Ph.D., Director of the Maloney Art Gallery as well as curator of the exhibition. The panel members will discuss how they express in their art the range of human personality through their own self-portraits, images of others or in more abstract ways. The panel will take place in Dolan Performance Hall also in Annunciation Center. Artists featured on the panel are Ellen Denuto, Doug Depice, Elise Dodeles, Valerie Huhn, Arlene Gale Milgram and Raúl Villarreal.
Dr. Butera notes, “The exhibition reveals that artists using both figurative as well as abstract images are able to convey various aspects of human psychology through the formal elements of color, line, shading, pattern, composition as well as the addition of other visual elements and symbols to create the vast range of human feeling and personality.” The exhibition, which includes objects by 32 artists from New Jersey as well as California, Florida, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nebraska, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Tennessee, will be on view through April 14th. The Gallery is open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sundays, 2:00 – 6:00 PM, and by appointment (contact Dr. Butera at firstname.lastname@example.org or 973-290-4314 ahead of time). Please check the Gallery website, www.Maloneyartgallery.org, for upcoming special events as well as college vacation days and weather closings.
