Presented in partnership with the Department of Art and Art History’s Printmaking Convergence Program, New Prints 2012 features thirty-six works by artists at all stages of their careers, selected from over 2,600 submissions. New Prints 2012 is the forty-third presentation of the International Print Center New York’s (IPCNY) New Prints Program, a series of juried exhibitions organized by IPCNY several times each year, featuring prints made within the past twelve months.

New Prints 2012 includes etchings, lithographs, and monoprints, as well as sculptural prints, video animation, and a wall installation. The prints in this show vary tremendously, from playful and inventive to romantic, didactic, and meditative. Yet each piece demonstrates outstanding craftsmanship and pushes the boundaries of traditional printmaking to ask the question: what is a print, and how can printmaking expand?

Artists in New Prints 2012 include Desirée Alvarez, Rosaire Appel, Ann Aspinwall, David Avery, Jebah Baum, Anders Bergstrom, Simon Brejcha, Victoria Burge, James Dormer, Elizabeth Dove, James Ehlers, Rick Finn, Joscelyn Gardner, Jennie C. Jones, Oksana Judakova, Travis Lawrence, Janet Marcavage, Ania Matuszewska, Lothar Osterburg, Sunghee Pae, Lynn Peterfreund, Clarissa Plank, Ross Racine, Laurie Szujewska, Sandy Walker, and Rachel Perry Welty. The Selections Committee for the exhibition was comprised of Judith Dobrzynski (freelance writer), Raymond Foye (writer, publisher, and freelance curator), Erik Hougen (artist and Master Printer at Lower East Side Printshop), David W. Kiehl (Curator of Prints and Special Collections at the Whitney Museum of American Art), Kakyoung Lee (artist), and Janice Oresman (collector and art advisor).

New Prints 2012 was organized by the International Print Center New York and presented in partnership with the Department of Art and Art History’s Printmaking Convergence Program, whose mission it is to bring focus to the richness, challenges, and pleasures of the fine art print to The University of Texas at Austin, as well as to its local, regional, national and international constituencies. Additional support for the exhibition comes from the College of Fine Arts and the Department of Art and Art History's Guest Artist in Printmaking Program.
