> DESCRIPTION

In the aftermath of the frenzy brought about the Cultural Revolution, in September 1979 the young artists’ group “The Star Art” held an outdoor exhibition in a vacant plot in Beijing. But the exhibition was closed down by the national public safety authorities just three days after the opening, leading to the first citizen’s movement since the Republic’s founding. This exhibition examines the 30-year legacy of The Star Art and its contribution to contemporary Chinese art, and includes paintings, photography, and related materials.
