Die Ausstellung »Kairo. Offene Stadt. Neue Bilder einer andauernden Revolution« lässt sich auf zwei verschiedene Weisen lesen. Die erste handelt von dem politischen und sozialen Erwachen einer Generation, die mit dem Beginn der Massenproteste am 25. Januar 2011 auf dem Tahrir-Platz sichtbar geworden ist. Diese Geschichte wird vornehmlich von ägyptischen KünstlerInnen, FotografInnen, AktivistInnen und KuratorInnen erzählt. Die zweite hat mit der Rolle der Bilder und der neuen digitalen Netzwerke zu tun, die teilweise dazu dienten, den Aufstand zu initiieren, aufzuzeichnen und in die Welt zu tragen.

The exhibition »Cairo. Open City. New Testimonies from an Ongoing Revolution« can be read in two ways. The first way addresses the story of the political and social awakening of a young generation that became visible with the mass protest in the Tahrir Square on January 25, 2011. This story is told primarily by Egyptian artists, photographers, activists and curators. The second reading is about the roles of images and of new digital networks, which have partly been used to organize, broadcast and record this uprising.
