MCA Denver will present a series of Dana Schutz’s latest works on paper in conjunction with a large-scale retrospective of her work at the Denver Art Museum. Drawing from a long tradition of Abstract Expressionism, Schutz creates an imaginative and mythic universe full of cannibals, creatures and other grotesque and fantastical characters. Her color monotypes showcase the sensory overload and luscious texture that characterizes her paintings, while her black-and-white drawings display a similar style that is both haunting and gestural and which blurs together figurative and abstract elements. The exhibition will feature new drawings, as well as watercolor monoprints produced specifically for this presentation.
