Artist Statement
Working mostly in black and white large format film, I play with the effect of symbolism on the contemporary individual. I typically use older photographic processes that mimic a previous era. In this particular series I reference the use of the human form in Pre-Columbian art, concentrating on the figure as a symbol of existence and consciousness. It implies our connection with mortality and the present moment and maybe serves as a medium to understanding our experiences. These images are a reinterpretation of these ancient beliefs.
