Photographic portraits of early Oregonians inspire these intricately drawn, monumental scrolls. Worked with a fine cross-contour line to define the sitter’s features and embellished with colored pencil, iridescent inks, and glitter, they resemble an amalgamation of topographical and galactic maps. The artist’s use of color, line, and textural marks creates a rich, multimedia feast. Fidler’s drawings are a unique 21st century approach to the portrait aspect of the Museum’s upcoming The Body Beautiful in Ancient Greece exhibition.
