The Houston Airport System (HAS), through the City of Houston’s civic art ordinance and its partner the Houston Arts Alliance, is introducing a rotating collection of fine art throughout the airport system terminals. The HAS’s Portable Art Collection will include photography, painting, craft and other forms of flat and 3D works by regional artists.
Prior to installation at the airports, Houston Arts Alliance will showcase highlights from the collection in LAYOVER: Houston Airport System Portable Artwork Collection Preview from July 23 through August 24. The exhibition will feature 10 artworks by Karin Broker, Jeff Forster, Mary Helene Gagneux, Dixie Friend Gay, Jonathan Leach, Katrina Moorhead, Howard Sherman, Damon Thomas and Randy Twaddle.
The new works increase the aesthetic value of the collection as a whole and provide travelers—residents and visitors alike—with the opportunity to enjoy the works of some of our finest cultural practitioners with every visit to the airports.
The artwork was selected by a panel of leading members of Houston’s art community in partnership with airport administration staff.
