> DESCRIPTION

Focusing on the Weatherspoon’s ever growing collection of three-dimensional works, this exhibition is presented in several sections, each of which brings together artists whose work shares an affinity, if not a fairly direct kinship.

“The Space of Architecture” features work by Jackie Ferrara, Sol LeWitt, Robert Overby, and Jane South, among others.  Some of the works pose structures that simulate architectural forms while others more directly quote from that vocabulary.  The works in “Going Organic” share an inspiration from, or approximation of, the natural world.  “No More Heavy Metal” presents the work of post-minimalist sculptors who rejected the cool and re-fabricated nature of much minimal art in favor of a greater engagement with form and materials.
