At first glance these two artists have little in common other that choosing to live and work in London. There styles, technique and concepts very greatly but underneath the surface is an unusual thread of exploration and contrasting identity.
Born in Hong Kong, Mok came to Britain at the age of 13, with this obvious act of displacement at a pivotal moment in his life becoming an inspiration and subject for much of his subsequent work. Mixing Western artistic mores with Eastern craft skills, Mok creates. Perhaps because of this dislocating move, Mok came to art late, having initially studied mathematics and statistics, yet this study has found its way into his work, as fractals and angles meld with his desire to find order in chaos across series of paintings that progress around a central theme.
Katherine Lubar was raised in England but spent a significant amount of her youth traveling to the US. Studying music as well as painting Katherine developed theories about the correlation between visual art and music that inspires and informs her work.
