> DESCRIPTION

The SCAD exhibitions department presents "Immaterial Extracted," an exhibition that explores the physical and psychic tensions between form, color and space. Curated by Fairfax Dorn, this exhibition features works by Rosy Keyser, Laleh Khorramian, Heather Rowe and Erin Shirreff originally commissioned by Ballroom Marfa for the Fall 2010 show "Immaterial." Working in varied mediums, the artists are united in process-driven practices that evoke the metaphysical aspects of art production by establishing a psychic space outside the work, one that is almost as tangible as the physical space inhabited by the object itself. Here, somewhere in the interstices of abstraction, formalism and minimalism, the works precipitate the complex relationships between color and form; the artists' confrontation of the medium and its materiality; the interpretation of time, space and perception; and the intuitive process and the act of making material immaterial.
