CHAOS & ORDER: Master Workshop with Sandy Skoglund

Sandy Skoglund, world-renowned conceptual artist and photographer, will lead this Master Workshop geared to qualified advanced students of any medium wishing to participate in this artist’s talk, critique, installation, performance and photographic event.

  • Artist’s Talk – Ms. Skoglund will discuss her artwork and career path from her graduate student days to her current work.
  • Critique – Participants may bring in an artwork for the group discussion and critique Ms. Skoglund will lead as a starting point for questions and dialogues concerning issues of importance to each participating artist.
  • Chaos & Order Installation and Performance – Ms. Skoglund is well known for her collaborative art projects. In Chaos & Order, participants will play a role in the overall concept while at the same time expressing themselves individually through body gestures and workshop activities. The resulting artwork is a collaborative event structured by the artist in which each participant is seen as a co-creator. The vision and meaning of the piece remains incomplete until it is made physical in the gallery space and photographed.
  • Photographic Event and Artist-Signed Print – Ms. Skoglund will photograph Chaos & Order, capturing the result as a performance event memorialized in photographic form. She will choose a final version of the photograph, make 8” x 10” prints, sign the prints and send one to each participant. In addition, participants are invited to take their own photographs throughout the day.

Visit the Art Center website for a full description of the workshop, Ms. Skoglund’s bio, a link to her website, and the application form.
