Beth Campbell’s new installations created especially for the Main Gallery of The Sculpture Center break down the space and reconstruct it from the inside the artist’s mind. Her work twists viewers’ perceptions as they are drawn into the carefully controlled world of distortion and duplication. The work examines the spaces of everyday life in a manner that at once seems strikingly familiar and bizarrely deformed. Mirrors not only serve to further duplicate the objects but also turn the viewer’s gaze inward on themselves so that they are stimulated to examine the repetitions of their own daily routines. The work asks probing questions of the viewer but also pours out the contents of the artist’s mind in intricate and precise installations.
