Work No. 202: Half the Air in a Given Space exempli fies Turner-prize winning artist Martin Creed’s career-long investigation i nto how we physically experience everyday life. Creed produces his works\, which now number over 1000 projects\, by himself\, with performers\, or\, i n this case\, through the active participation of visitors. In this install ation the artist gives form to the air that surrounds us by precisely measu ring and capturing half of it inside nearly twenty thousand black balloons. Creating an environment that is both playful and claustrophobic\, he drast ically alters our perception of space. Here\, as in the majority of his pro duction\, Creed uses the art museum\, a site of meaningful contemplation\, to turn our experience of the ordinary into a work of art.
