John Webb (b. New Zealand)
John Webb's objective is to make art that is beautiful, interesting and different. There is a strong architectural underpinning to his work and he combines this perspective with Australian imagery. His work incorporates flora and fauna, social commentary, political insight and many other personal opinions about the environment he lives in and by extension, the wider world we all exist in. Within the composition he sets up rhythms and patterns using repetitive shapes or forms, color harmonies, curves and echoes of curves. He also likes using words / text as a contrast to the picturesque aspects of the composition that he hopes will eventually emerge as a painting which is poetic and poignant.
His latest work Near Mildura (2014) is among the top 39 finalists chosen for the prestigious Wynne Prize this year.
Education: 3 years of architectural studies at Auckland University.
John Webb is offering a wide variety of originals for sale in the ArtSlant Salesroom (here).
