Robert Brennan (b. 1936, New Haven Ct. USA)
Brennan's shaped canvas constructions are a search for the expressive potential of abstract form. There is a sense of peace and tension, the softness and flow of a curve, and the structural bones of a skeleton emerging beneath the outer skin. He states: “It is through the stark white works that I ultimately push the edge of painting toward relief and sculpture to create a dialogue when light brings the forms to life." Brennan continues his explorations in white; however, recent works include the Remnant Series, explorations in color that use personal artifacts as expressive elements that continue to blur the edge between painting and sculpture.
