Anna Rose (b. 1982, Massachusetts, USA)
My recent work traces the ways in which hair functions as a container for the mythologization of the body, weaving around familiar tropes of femininity, deconstructing and re-examining well-known cultural constructs of the body. Worn as costumes, the synthetic hair pieces engage both with the fetishization of hair, and the location that hair provides for the acting out of the simultaneous attraction, revulsion, and fear often ascribed to the female both throughout history and today.
