The Common is published in print biannually from Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts.

For the Fall 2012 edition of The Common, we seek line drawings that, in keeping with the journal’s theme, reflect a particular time or place, real or imagined. Line drawing celebrates a maximum of expression with a minimum of marks on the page. Artists like Matisse, Picasso, and Cocteau mastered the art of capturing gesture, emotion, places, and moments in time with an economy of lines.
Selected material will be published in the print journal and may also appear online. In addition, there is a possibility of including selected work in a New York City gallery show in the spring of 2013. One artist per print edition will be selected to receive a small honorarium.
Due Date: June 17, 2012.
