The exhibition is good, and congrats to the artist. A good friend of mine told me a rather disturbing story recently. He had been working with scott for years, and scott has helped him a great deal. Recently scott has not been able to sell as much art to pay his bills and has resorted to throwing events to sustain his gallery. Scott openly admits his failure, in his bathroom there is a painting that says 'BLACKBALL' which he says he got an employee to make in order to remind him how his ex-wife ha... [more]

Larissa Aharoni “Vivi Sepultura” - F_AIR November 26, 2013 - February 14, 2014 Larissa Aharoni's immersive video installation “Vivi Sepultura”, her first video-project and conclusive work of her residency stay at F_AIR, is a meditation on the sense of individual responsibility for all human beings and a condition of memory. Not a memory in the literal sense but a memory retained within the material, indentations or scars, which tell a story of violent and repetitious... [more]

By Margaret Meehan http://glasstire.com/2011/01/23/flotsam-and-feedbackfeedbacklooploop-at-500x/ On a cold and (believe it or not) snowy day in Dallas, Texas I found myself at the entrance of 500X Gallery on the last day of Flotsam, an exhibition of work by Christine Bisetto and Kerry Pacillio. I was familiar with Bisetto’s work and was making it a point to see the show despite the growing cold and my 3-hour drive back to Austin. The show is down now so I’m glad I did get to see... [more]

‘Annunciation’ by Tom Estes, one of the winners of Art Venice 2013, selected by The Biennale Project for The Venice Biennale. The title of the work ‘Annunciation’ is a Biblical term which means the announcing of ‘the incarnation’ or a materialization of the unrealized in a concrete form. The work therefore relates to multiple worlds; possible, fictional or desired worlds which though different from the one we live in, directly influences our own. The Venice Biennale (Italian: Biennale di... [more]

A Portrait of the Psyche Persona is a word that can mean that aspect or part of one’s personality that is deliberately shown to the world, or in the Jungian sense, and hearkening back to the etymology of the word (from the Greek “prosōpon”), a theatrical mask which covers the wearer. In the current exhibition at the Therese A. Maloney Gallery, director and curator Dr. Virginia Fabbri Butera, by choosing this particular word as both the theme and the title, has opened a dual v... OVERLORDS BY TOM ESTES at Interlife Crisis It’s hard to remember a world without the internet. In its current pernicious state of velocity combined with a fathomless audience, the internet has become a dizzying source of daily information. According to a recent survey, we now spend almost half our waking hours either online, on the phone, or watching television. The flow of information has continued unabated and transmission of images has accelerated to become a source of daily reality for most u... [more]

Life is short, and we all will die in the end. Sometimes we need reminding of these simple but powerful facts. The vanitas is a genre most associated with religious subject matter. It is included in religious images in order to tell the viewer that since life is short, they have to accept Christ before death, and also to say that there is more to life than just this fragile earthly one. Vanitas can be depicted as something as ephemeral as flowers or rotting fruit, and more often, the skull is use... [more]
