Art or Not? Mattresses
by
11/6/14 Posted 11/6/14

Art or Not? One of the pictures described below is a genuine art work: every Friday the ArtSlant team asks our discerning readers to indulge in a game of spot the difference. The answer will be revealed on our social media on Monday: Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram. This week's theme is: mattresses. #1 "the artist, born in Glasgow, 1982, uses public space in this series of street interventions, where the artwork becomes part of it's background, barely perceived by the hurried commuter. Discarded every day objects a... [more]

The exhibition is good, and congrats to the artist. A good friend of mine told me a rather disturbing story recently. He had been working with scott for years, and scott has helped him a great deal. Recently scott has not been able to sell as much art to pay his bills and has resorted to throwing events to sustain his gallery. Scott openly admits his failure, in his bathroom there is a painting that says 'BLACKBALL' which he says he got an employee to make in order to remind him how his ex-wife ha... [more]

"There is a Mongolian saying that artists are sky people, and to be an artist is a mission that you either follow the call for, or you don't, similar to the vocation of a shaman," said Marc Schmitz whose work is being exhibited at Shanghai's Moproo Gallery until June 2. In this exhibition, the artist presents a wide range collection of works, among them, the most recent paintings that have been completed at the Shanghai Peace Art Hotel, where he has been a resident artist for the last months of... ‘Annunciation’ by Tom Estes, one of the winners of Art Venice 2013, selected by The Biennale Project for The Venice Biennale. The title of the work ‘Annunciation’ is a Biblical term which means the announcing of ‘the incarnation’ or a materialization of the unrealized in a concrete form. The work therefore relates to multiple worlds; possible, fictional or desired worlds which though different from the one we live in, directly influences our own. The Venice Biennale (Italian: Biennale di... [more]

A Portrait of the Psyche Persona is a word that can mean that aspect or part of one’s personality that is deliberately shown to the world, or in the Jungian sense, and hearkening back to the etymology of the word (from the Greek “prosōpon”), a theatrical mask which covers the wearer. In the current exhibition at the Therese A. Maloney Gallery, director and curator Dr. Virginia Fabbri Butera, by choosing this particular word as both the theme and the title, has opened a dual...
