by Abhilasha Singh
Ola Pehrson at Färgfabriken Stockholm
September 2nd - November 8th
Posted
10/19/09
Färgfabriken has the pleasure to present the first comprehensive survey of Ola Pehrson's work. Despite major international success, this is the first opportunity for audiences to see and experience his key works in relation to one another. The Ola Pehrson Retrospective will also draw a portrait of an artist that, in his own highly personal way, has given shape to some of the most burning questions of our time.In Ola Pehrson's art we are confronted with monumental powers such as the mass... HOMESTYLE TINKERIN'
Ingenuity gathers the family around
by Michael Gill
Ingenuity organizer James Levin predicted that Ian Charnas' production Boltz — a campy mix of musical theater, dance and electrical tinkering presented by Case Western Reserve University — would be the iconic event that people remembered from Ingenuity 2009. Hopefully that's not true. The production's music and dance weren't badly realized, and the sustainability message was just about right for an after-school spe... [more]

I’ve been away from the Toronto art scene for a number of years and was looking forward to revisiting the city that served as backdrop to the cultivation of my love for contemporary art. What I miss most about the Toronto approach towards exhibiting work are the conceptually curated, neatly packaged exhibitions that stimulate.
The exhibition at The Power Plant, Universal Code, had me worried a bit. At first glance, the concept seemed too broad - a show designed for anything - ano... [more]

Nomads
by Rebecca Catching
Geoffrey Farmer, Hadley+Maxwell, Myfanwy MacLeod, Gareth Moore, Althea Thauberger at National Gallery of Canada
April 17th - September 30th

Nomads, a collection of art from Canada's west coast province of British Columbia, fulfilled its remit in the sense of being wholly and completely aimless. Though the show purported to be about the concept of wandering, few artists appeared to address this theme even tangentially (producing site-specific artwork in Italy which deals with mortality and transcendence is a bit of a cop-out). Gareth Moore was on course with an installation work based on his voyage through Canada. The artist... [more]

Sensuous Florals
by international art
Theresa Durant at ‘La Casita Del Arte’ art studio and gallery
June 8th - June 28th
Posted

I had the pleasure of meeting Theresa Durant in Hamburg, Germany at the Marziart Gallery in May of 2009~ This beautiful photographer photographs florals in a way that I have never seen before. I must admit that florals are generally not my favorite forms of photography, as I prefer black and white film photography, but being in Hamburg at the time I was drawn to the gallery to view all the works. Theresa Durant's florals have a sensuous feel to them. They are elegant, almost alive. At t... [more]

Transforming Mathematical Ideas into a Physical Experience
by Frances Guerin
Ryoji Ikeda at Museum Of Contemporary Art Tokyo
April 2nd - June 21st
Posted
6/1/09
Ryoji Ikeda’s art creates a category all its own, a category that defies categorization. Sitting somewhere between art and mathematics, computer graphics and music, between what can and cannot be seen, what can and cannot be heard, understood, experienced, Ikeda is in the business of challenging the distinctions that enable our physical existence to make sense.
His current exhibition at the the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo (MOT) is labeled a retrospective. Unlike a retrospective as we have c... [more]
