Written By Amma Aburam There is no better way to describe Mauren Brodbeck than as a bold, multifaceted artist. From paintings, collages and photography to acting and singing, there is no artistic avenue she has not explored and mastered. The Horyou team had the opportunity to attend one of her shows in Geneva last month. We caught up with her to ask about her creative process and how she lives to Dream, Act and Inspire. Is being such a multifaceted artist a dream come true for you? I have always love... [more]

The answer is revealed below. This week: textiles. #1 This American postminimalist artist is known for his small, subtle, intimate works. His art makes use of scale and line. His works span a range of media, from sculpture, painting, drawing, printmaking, and artist’s books to installation and furniture. He lives and works... [more]

Beloved "Body Conscious" Maria Lassnig Passes Away at 94
5/8/14 Posted 5/8/14

photo via Famed artist, "body awareness" theorist, and Austria's "Grand Dame of painting" Maria Lassnig passed away earlier this week in Vienna at the age of 94. Lassnig, born in Austria in 1919, attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna during World War II and is known for her brushy paint strokes and brutal subject matter. Lassnig used painting to explore the human body and psyche, illustrating a critical and sometimes gruesome subjectivity. She herself was often the object of her critical eye. Her latest solo exhibition currently at MoMA PS1, reviewed earlier this year by our Charlie Schultz,... [more]

20140313014942-kunstsammlung_k20_malewitsch_01 A Symbol of a Future World
Wassily Kandinsky, Kasimir Malevich, Piet Mondrian at K20 Grabbeplatz April 5th, 2014 - July 6th, 2014

White is the first thing that strikes one entering the Infinite White Abyss at K20 Grabbeplatz. Not necessarily Kandinsky’s white, although his masterpiece greets the visitor, but rather the white of the exhibition space itself, an island of haute-design white floating in the middle of a black gallery cube. Also, watch your step – the white space is necessarily and symbolically raised just 3 cm above floor level and that edge is (perhaps also symbolically) unmarked. Falling unwarned... [more]

The exhibition is good, and congrats to the artist. A good friend of mine told me a rather disturbing story recently. He had been working with scott for years, and scott has helped him a great deal. Recently scott has not been able to sell as much art to pay his bills and has resorted to throwing events to sustain his gallery. Scott openly admits his failure, in his bathroom there is a painting that says 'BLACKBALL' which he says he got an employee to make in order to remind him how his ex-wife ha... [more]

In this exhibition, the artist presents a wide range collection of works, among them, the most recent paintings that have been completed at the Shanghai Peace Art Hotel, where he has been a resident artist for the last months of...
