It is hard to take any exhibition with a grandiose title such as Photography Since the Millennium seriously, but then again, we are just fifteen years into this new millennium. And there have not been any major strides in photography since the new millennium except for, well, the death of analogue, and video is accessible to all. Goodbye film, hello pixels. Has there been one year since the new millennium that has not seen a new release of cameras with enhanced numbers of pixels? It is the mega... [more]

The Dream of the 90s Is Alive… in the Art Museum
2/6/15 Posted 2/6/15

The 2010s are so 90s. The decade’s enduring nostalgia moment—perhaps first identified, or at least concretized in Portlandia’s hilarious 2011 pilot—endures longer still. Look no further than this Jimmy Fallon Saved by the Bell reunion sketch, one of the most joyful things circulating the internet this week, to feel the prevailing 90s love. We’re seeing 90s allusions in fashion’s grunge resurgence—piercings are mainstream, midriffs have resurfaced, f... [more]

The exhibition is good, and congrats to the artist. A good friend of mine told me a rather disturbing story recently. He had been working with scott for years, and scott has helped him a great deal. Recently scott has not been able to sell as much art to pay his bills and has resorted to throwing events to sustain his gallery. Scott openly admits his failure, in his bathroom there is a painting that says 'BLACKBALL' which he says he got an employee to make in order to remind him how his ex-wife ha... [more]

By Margaret Meehan On a cold and (believe it or not) snowy day in Dallas, Texas I found myself at the entrance of 500X Gallery on the last day of Flotsam, an exhibition of work by Christine Bisetto and Kerry Pacillio. I was familiar with Bisetto’s work and was making it a point to see the show despite the growing cold and my 3-hour drive back to Austin. The show is down now so I’m glad I did get to see it... The work is surreal at times, exploring the subconscious mind through fantastic imagery. Symbols of balance, serenity, and how we connect as a people emerge as the focus. With his intuitive character, guided by sp... [more]
