In Six Memos for the Next Millennium, Italo Calvino illustrates, with the aid of an Italian folktale, how love might be a force of attraction that holds the very craft of a story that brings seemingly disjunct events together. King Charlemagne, spellbound by a ring, falls in love with whoever possesses it: a young girl, an old man, and finally, a lake. “To hold this chain of events together, there is a verbal link, the word 'love' or 'passion,' which establishes a continuity between different... “No theme requires more pure logic than love.” —Alain Badiou, What is Love. At the Georgia Fee Writers Residencythis spring in Paris, Himali Singh Soin will utilize the romantic clichés of Paris to excavate its less probable, scientific desires. From 18th century follies in Parc Monceau and Bois de Vincennes to 20th century follies in Le Parc de la Villette to modern buildings like Le Grand Arch to Gargoyles and mere street side ornaments, her lines will be made of hype... Have you ever fallen in love? Her face is open, unselfconscious, laughing. Framed by wash of blonde hair, the light sheen of sweat settles on her skin and both eyes beam, full of trust and free of tension. Here is unalloyed happiness on the face of a full-grown woman, a joy one rarely sees in adults. Of course, she’s looking at her love, the man holding the camera. As a love-story between this couple unfolds in scattered pictures, videos, and poems read aloud (each word a thud, but so care... [more]

In the first of seven films in a series dealing with love between men and women (started in 2009 and proposed to end in 2019), a man sits down on a bus in Bucharest, Romania and telephones his wife or girlfriend. He becomes increasingly threatening and verbally violent, compulsively repeating the same questions and accusations over and over in a sort of trance-like loop. Troleibuzul 92 (Bus number 92) (2009) depicts a very private and intimate conversation that is played out in the public space, t... [more]

Why I Painted Three Women - Second Thoughts
by

Three Women 2005 oil on canvas 36” x 24” Why I painted Three Women doesn’t seem to matter so much anymore. I look at it and remember why I painted it, but I also see things I wasn’t able to see before. I first wrote about this painting that I painted in 2005 - on August 24, 2009. (Please visit my art website/blog: trixiepitts.com) Wow! It strikes me that I must have been in some sort of “zone” similar to one I might get into when I’m painting... [more]

Derivatives called Love

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 2, 2012 Julia 2008 Photograph  by Kim Barry What's braver than giving love to those you simply care for without their permission, possession, or prudence- without their reaction, return, or regard? No war hero metals compare. Too many have lived too closely to life without it and the dark places that are created when the heart  is not fed. What then is braver than  creating a life, a reality of faith that materializes into spaces that magnet those that need it, want it, give it, and spread it through the basic religious  action of coming to... I have it so deep inside me and know this truth with me not to leave me, provided I have perseverance after being told all these comical characters, the cagadores and does not require the parent to insult and attack me in different ways. Without such valuable advice from my Father, the examples in my life extend this warm room where the occasional attempts to impress you, but no fear, feel no more fear. I have more care of it as I can and I have no better example than I should be and study.... [more]
