[more]

A Borderless Time
by Sehr Jalil Raja
Art, history and academia are three sisters. They live under one roof, come from the same place but confront each other in ideology and personality. The irony being that all three can live their peaceful, independent lives but they choose otherwise…as the sisterhood comes as a grand rescue from deadly boredom. Artisans, historians and academics have thus thrived on each other’s livelihood.

ABSTRACT IN COOL BLUE
Painting: Acrylic on Wood
Size: 36 H x 36 W x 2 inches
I have always loved the landscapes and abstractions by Canadian "Group of Seven" painter Lawren Harris and, an independent painter Richard Billmeier, who is also Canadian. Harris's scenes of the Canadian north could cool the Mojave desert. Billmeier's landscapes with their magnetic horizon lines, blocky colours and visual intrigue ask me to engage again and again. Some of Billmeier's landcapes in orange could melt a... [more]

This exhibition is called Private and Confidential, the pieces are beautifully framed prints, that vibrate with luminous colour and luscious brush strokes, these seductive effects give a warm and enticing atmosphere to the imagery, but underneath is a certain and sudden shock as the mind realises the figurative imagery that challenges the imagination and beckons satire and paradox, and the cartoon, these seem to rent through the surface of appearances.....perhaps to comfort the knowing viewer wi... This week, I have got to that stage where I am in dire need of a brew. My trusty callus protector is doing a fine job but I have been denying myself breaks from drawing, which has lead to a sore hand that now resembles more of a claw.
Sometimes, I just get so involved in drawing and lose track of the time. When glancing at the clock, I think “just 5 more minutes, then I’ll take a break”. Inevitably, another hour passes and I tell myself the same thing, “just 5 minutes... [more]
Macri’s Pink Narrative. An essay by Kenneth Radu on the art of Adamo Macri. Downloadable document via Scribd
“In the film Funny Face starring the exquisite Audrey Hepburn and the light-as-air Fred Astaire, the dynamic Kay Thompson in her role of fashion editor proclaims that it’s time to “Think Pink!” We are then treated to a frenzy of pink haute couture. Of all colours in western society …” [more]
Facing the Faces: the Facebook Self-portraits of Adamo Macri. An essay by Kenneth Radu on the art of Adamo Macri. Downloadable document via Scribd
“Self-portraiture and painting are almost synonymous. Albrecht Durer, Hans Holbein the Younger, Titian, Artemisia Gentileschi, Rembrandt, Elisabeth-Louise Vigée-Le Brun, Francisco Goya, Mary Cassatt, Paul Cézanne, Edvard Munch, Emily Carr, Frida Kahlo, a legion of others: the walls of art galleries are heavy with images of artists w... Art of the Orifice: Adamo Macri’s Verboten. An essay by Kenneth Radu on the art of Adamo Macri. Downloadable document via Scribd
“The human body has always been the source of pleasure and revulsion, at once the embodiment of ecstasy and excrement, delight and disgust, beauty and brutality, dream and nightmare. In his great satire Gulliver’s Travels Jonathan Swift depends upon such antithesis in his portrayal of the admirable Houyhnhnms and Gulliver’s ensuing misanthropy. A... [more]
