Mr. Sun Changfei was an accomplished artist in the printmaking world in northeast in the first half of 20th century, and also a pioneer in the perspective field of Chinese painting. Encouraged by the emerging woodcut movement advocated by Mr. Lu Xun in his youth, he engraved life with sharp seal cutting, called out for sufferings of common people and left paintings with strong spirit of the time. He lived in the Manchukoku occupied by Japanese invaders in the 1940s. Struggle, Hungry People and other works he created in this period displayed unyielding spirit and artists’ justice and conscience. His wood engraving works became an important imprint in the history of Chinese modern printmaking with characteristic printmaking language. In 1948, Mr. Sun Changfei taught in Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, and since then devoted his whole life to the art education of the new China. As a creator, pioneer and founder of basic perspective theory of Chinese painting, he exerted himself for this, which made the perspective teaching level of Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts take the lead in art academies across the country. Moreover, his perspective teaching idea influenced a generation of art scholars.
This exhibition will comprehensively exhibit Mr Sun Changfei’s 148 pieces of artistic works and perspective works to which he devoted half of his life to commemorate this predecessor in the art circle that made silent contribution in current of the times, and to appreciate the noble demeanor under the cultivation of seal cutting of times.
Sun Changfei (1920--1986), born in Jilin. He once studied in Department of Picture of Jilin Normal University. He successively taught in Jilin No.4 National High School, Jilin University, Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts and other universities and high schools. Living, creating and educating in special time, region and historic background, he made particular achievements in printmaking creation and developed painting perspective theories in teaching. He was the author of Perspective, Perspective Course, and other books.
