Han Jingsheng (1912~1998) is one of the represents of the 1st generation landscape oil painters in Northeast area. He pursuits his art dream under the particular regional and cultural background of Northeast and achieves marvelous artistic merit. In the centenary of Han Jingsheng’s birth, National Art Museum of China will held Oil Painting Art Exhibition of Han Jingsheng to commemorate this significant artist who was especially outstanding in the development of Oil painting works of Northeast.

This exhibition is a complete exhibition of Mr. Han Jingsheng’s oil painting career. In this exhibition, more than 200 paintings include his artistic styles and features in different periods: the experimental painting in the initial stage of oil painting practice, the painting in the mature stage and vivid and delightful paintings completed when he was old. The colors can express the subtle emotion in life of an artist; the lines concentrate the efforts and passion of an artist to the oil painting language. Regardless of the changes of society, he had been always committed himself in art. The large number of painting themes is related to the Northeast local lives and regional culture. His painting style is simple, unadorned, hearty and vivid, showing his humanities concern on lives of common people. His works are definitely the outstanding representatives of early oil painting works of Northeast area.

Han Jingsheng was born in Lichang County, Hebei Province, then moved to Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, studied pencil sketch and oil painting with Russian painters and then was taught by correspondence of Portrait Department of Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts. He was employed as a teacher in Harbin Institute of Technology in 1938 and was respectively taught by Japanese painters Koichi Sato and Hakutei Ishii in that period. He once held a post in Service Bureau of Harbin Artist Association. He committed himself to the art of oil painting for his whole life no matter how difficult the condition was, kept painting and made contributes to Chinese oil painting of 20th century.
